Climb to the Highest Mountain of Mongolia

Western part of Mongolia is where Mongolian minority of Kazakh people live. You will discover their history of Kasakh people live. You will discover their history and traditional life, enjoying the nature that is blessed with mountains with scenic beauty, rich and interesting culture. Interesting sites: Snow Capped Peaks, Potanin and Alexander’s glaciers sights and customs of Kazakh people. Potanin Glacier stretches 19km. On this trip you will climb the highest peak of Mongolia which is “Khuiten” peak (4374m, 14,350ft) and Malchin peak (4027m), which marks the intersection Russian, Chinese and Mongolian borders. Altai Tavan Bogd was protected in 1996.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to hotel. After checking-in to the hotel, we will do a short city tour including Chinggis Square, Chinggis Khaan Monument, Gandan Monastery and Zaisan Hill for panoramic view of the city. Before dinner, we will enjoy Mongolian traditional folklore concert. Have a dinner. Overnight at hotel

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar – Preparation day

Visit local black market and shopping center to purchase some travelling equipments. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 Ulaanbaatar - Ulgii - Base camp

Take flight to Ulgii town, the center of Bayan-Ulgii province for 3 hours. Drive to Tavan Bogd Mountain through Ulaan Khus village. On the way, we will have a picnic. Arrive at Base camp in entrance gate of National park. Overnight at tent

Day 4 Base camp - Camp-1

We will leave our vehicle and trek to Malchin Mountain about 17 km. Luggage will be carried on camel or horse. We will pass two mountains. We will set up for the climbing and acclimatize around camp-1 and short trekking at beautiful natural scenery. Overnight at tent

Day 5 Camp-1 - Malchin Peak - Camp-1

We will climb to the Malchin peak and its elevation makes a good acclimatization day for mountain climbers and provides a long climb, mostly on screw and requiring no technical equipment. Come back to Camp-1 for overnight. Overnight at tent

Day 6 Camp-1 - Potanin Glacier - Camp-2

Early in the morning, we will walk around 8-9 kms through Potanin’s Glacier to Advance Camp-2 in Khonog Tolgoi. Arrive at Camp-2 and set up tent. Overnight at tent

Day 7 Camp-2 - Khuiten Peak - Camp-1

In the next morning, we climb to Khuiten Peak. From the summit you will get spectacular views into land of China, Russia and Mongolia. It is permanently covered with glaciers and snow. Then we will walk back to Camp-1. Overnight at tent

Day 8 Reserve day

We will have a reserve day for mountain climbing to Malchin and Khuiten peak. Overnight at tent

Day 9 Back to base camp

In the morning, we will start to return to the base camp with our car. In the afternoon free time for relax. Overnight at tent

Day 10 Base camp - Ulgii

Drive back to Ulgii town. Visit to Kazakh families living in the countryside. Enjoy their hospitality and experience different culture and custom. Visit local museum and black market. Dinner and overnight at local hotel

Day 11 Ulgii - Ulaanbaatar

Take a flight back to Ulaanbaatar and arrive at Chinggis khan airport. Transfer to hotel and check in. In the afternoon, we will do short sightseeing tour including Natural History Museum or National History Museum or Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum. In the afternoon free time for shopping and for relax. Have a farewell dinner. Overnight at hotel

Day 12 Departure

Check out hotel. Transfer to airport. Departure
